Next up from our last AGW meetup is Hero's Quest - more commonly known as Quest for Glory I.

Joshua Smyth of Tiny Frog Software dazzled us with the 16 colour EGA graphics and 8-bit MIDI title theme and regaled us with tales of his youth spent mesmerized in front of the screen (although, by his own account, he likely failed to progress very far at the tender age of seven...)

Of particular appeal to Josh was the game's unusual mix of classic RPG and point-and-click adventure gameplay styles. Players could choose from one of three traditional career paths - fighter, magic-user/wizard and thief - and later games in the series would allow you to carry your character over from previous games.

Sierra didn't copyright the name for Hero's Quest before Milton Bradley came out with the Games Workshop boardgame and copyrighted the name out from under them. The series was renamed to Quest for Glory and subsequent releases of the first game were also renamed; Josh proudly managed to score a copy of the originally titled Hero's Quest off Ebay a few weeks before the meetup : ).
