What happened at the 2009 Game Jam by sknightly

In 2009, Game Jams were held in Waikato and Otago (plus around the world).  About 8-9 people traveled to Hamilton from Auckland too (but we're holding our own event in Auckland this year).

To begin the inspiration process, you can see screenshots of last year's NZ entries in this gallery.

And you can browse and play the games from 2009 here.

And here is the introduction and keynote speech from 2009, featuring Kyle Gabler creator of the acclaimed indie game World of Goo.

Planning the next GameJam by sknightly

After the Global Game Jam in January, many people said "we don't want to have to wait 12 months to do this again". And six months' time is only a month or so away.  However, this Jam could be run differently, to our own format - so how would people like it to be?

Play the Global Game Jam 2011 games by sknightly

Over 48 hours in late January 2011, game makers, artists, musicians and programmers gathered at the Media Design School in Auckland and the University of Waikato in Hamilton to make games!  75 Kiwis took part, making over 15 games.  Some of them are below for your game-playing pleasure.

Globally over 7400 'jammers' in 169 locations made over 1100 games on the same weekend. New Zealand gamers were the first to kickoff, working from 5pm on Friday 28 January until Sunday 30.

This year's games were based around the theme of 'Extinction'.

Remember: these games were made fast. There may be bugs, weird requirements but also the seed of some neat ideas.  The games are free to play, under a Creative Commons License.
